Month 4 · Legislatures of the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan

No forced labour in our shops

The Uyghurs

The ask

Legislators in the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan: table a binding law banning imports made with Xinjiang forced labour.

Why

The model law follows the US UFLPA and the EU regulation. It presumes Xinjiang goods are made with forced labour unless shown otherwise, traces goods through Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand, and adds a transnational-repression offence. It turns earlier non-binding genocide motions into binding measures.

What you can do

  1. Write to your MP or senator asking them to table the model forced-labour import bill. Ask whether they voted for the earlier genocide motion.
  2. Invite them to a briefing with Uyghur survivors.
  3. Use the published map of which listed firms supply your market to ask your local retailers where their goods come from.
  4. Watch the tracker for when the bill is tabled (target: month 9) and how your legislator votes.

For: Constituents, Uyghur survivors and diaspora groups. From the plan: “Brief legislators in the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan, with survivors, to table the model forced-labour import bill” — the Genocide Plan.
